Anton Parsons

'Passing Time' (2010) Wilson Reserve, Christchurch Stainless Steel and Copper
Anton Parsons’ practice embraces a broad range of media encompassing industrial materials, readymade objects, photography and installation. Over the past seventeen years he has established a fluid and sustainable practice. His concepts are realised with seemingly insignificant ephemera. They often accrue new meanings independent of the artist’s original vision when redefined, reconstructed and re-presented. Anton rejects a prescriptive art viewing process, stating that he “…like[s] a message to be buried in the work, but it is hidden and isn’t necessarily meant to be found. It means as much to me that the viewer might impose their own interpretation on the work.”

Anton graduated from University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts, Christchurch in 1990. Considered one of New Zealand’s leading sculptors, he has been commissioned to create large-scale, site-specific artworks throughout the country. His works are held in numerous public and private collections including, Chartwell Collection, Auckland, Govett Brewster Art Gallery, New Plymouth, Christchurch City Council Art Gallery, Christchurch. Anton is based in Auckland and established his shared studio at Corban Estate Arts Centre in 2015
