| Wood Carving - Andrew De Boer |
Andrew de Boer has been practising as an artist since graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland in 1986. He has exhibited in public and private venues and his work is held in a number of collections including the Auckland City Art Gallery and the Sarjeant Gallery in Wanganui. Since 2001 Andrew has had a studio at the Corban Estate Arts Centre from where he has created a range of works, primarily in two media – cast concrete sculptural pieces, and a series of carved wooden pieces.
Spirituality, religion, consumerism and sexuality are all topics that Andrew de Boer explores in his sculptural works that include a series of lyrical wooden pieces that are elegantly pierced, shaped and constructed, and his more experimental cast concrete works. Andrew de Boer has been working full time as a sculptor since graduating from Elam in 1986. This will be one of the first exhibitions he has held in recent years and will offer an interesting insight into the current work practice of this leading New Zealand sculptor.
