Adults Weekend Summer Art Intensive

Sat 7th & Sun 8th March

Join a group of talented and enthusiastic artists for a special weekend of fun, inclusive and stimulating workshops that are designed to appeal to students wishing to explore new ideas and extend themselves creatively in a group environment.

Most classes run Sat 7th & Sun 8th March; 10am – 4pm Daily (during Waitakere Studio Open Weekend) unless otherwise stated.

TAKE ON TIVAEVAE! (BEGINNERS)
TUTOR: MARY AMA
Fri 6th March, 6.30pm – 8pm;
Sat 7th & Sun 8th March,
9.30am – 3pm
Fee: $130 (materials not included)
Venue: Pacifica Centre

Learn the basics of Tivaevae making in a friendly Pacifica environment. Students will create a beautiful cushion cover or wall-hanging learning techniques specific to the Cook Islands while developing personal design, cutting techniques
and stitching methods to create a unique piece of Tivaevae.

ONE-DAY ADULT VOICE WORKSHOP
TUTOR: SALLY STOCKWELL
Saturday 7th March
Fee: $65

This one day voice workshop, designed for you to discover and free your voice, will explore technical aspects of voice: including breath, vibration, resonance and vocal range. Improvisations help to develop presence, musicality and the joy of vocal communication. Classes are fun and supportive, technically informative, relevant to both singing and speech, and open to participants of all levels and experience. Explore the many voices we have, our connection to our bodies, our unique sound and ourselves.

CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY
TUTOR: JULIE ZHU
Saturday 7th March – 8th March
Fee: $130 (includes materials)

Chinese calligraphy is the essence of Chinese art, and highly valued in China. This class aims to teach this unique, exotic art form to students who have little knowledge or experience of Chinese calligraphy. The class, conducted in English, teaches the basic style of Chinese calligraphy, Li Shu, originating from the Han dynasty. Participants will learn the intricacies of applying ink to rice paper and create their own calligraphy work.

FABRIC PRINTING
TUTOR: INGRID DUBBELT
Saturday 7th March – 8th March
Fee: $135 (includes most materials)

If you have always wanted to screen print onto fabric, or if you want to extend your experience, here is an opportunity. Bring ideas and images to translate into designs for bags, cushion covers, T-shirts or a piece of cloth for future use. This workshop will cover basic printing techniques, colour harmony and repeat pattern.

MINIATURE TO MONUMENTAL: EXPLORING SCALE (ALL LEVELS)
TUTOR: LOUISE STEVENSON
Saturday 7th March – 8th March
Fee: $110 (materials not included)

Using everyday materials as a starting point, students will make a series of small intimate works which will then be expanded into a larger public artwork. Through drawing, collage, construction, installation and projection, students will explore extremes of scale and ways of developing small works into large mixed media installations.

MOSAIC GARDEN PROJECT (ALL LEVELS)
TUTOR: CLAUDIA POND EYLEY
Saturday 7th March – 8th March
Fee: $135 (includes grout, adhesive and base. Tiles can be purchased from tutor)

This two day course will provide you with an introduction to materials, cutting techniques, adhesives and grouting to create a paving, wall or table mosaic that can be used outdoors.
