THE ART OF CONTEMPORARY DECONSTRUCTION | All Levels

With Brendan McGorry

Sat 27 & Sun 28 August, 10am – 4pm

Through a series of structured dynamic exercises you will learn to deconstruct a still life and explore the space between the abstract and the observed object, taking your work to a place you didn’t know existed. Brendan will use his own work and historical precedents to explain the delicate art of composition and narrative and how the history of art and human knowledge can inform the contemporary. Students will take home a mature work.

ALLA PRIMA | All Levels

With Anita Levering

Sat 17 & Sun 18 September, 10am – 4pm

Translated directly from Italian, alla prima means ‘at once’ and it refers to the method of painting in one application and without retouching, otherwise known as ‘direct painting’. You will learn how to paint a small (monochrome) still life in oil colours in one weekend. We start with a sketch on board. You learn how to mix colours and paint confidently in oils. Oil colours dry slowly so you can blend and make subtle transitions between light and
dark areas. Experience the rich and deep colours of this medium.

FEE: $150
