EILIS GALUSZEWSKI
Eilis is a self-taught mixed media Artist whose dedication and involvement in the arts requires her to wear many hats.
Her family settled in West Auckland from Ireland when Eilis was 4 years old. She grew up making dolls, puppets, costumes and having creative adventures wherever possible. Later, as Mum to three the creating continued and over the years she became passionate about wearable art and mask making.
Trash to Fashion arrived in West Auckland and Eilis and her family embraced it head on, having successes in Trash to Fashion, Xtreme Artwear Awards and with daughter Rachael, in World of Wearable Art. A strong supporter of re-creating, Eilis soon took on an Educating Role in the current Schools Trash to Fashion Awards (ST2F). She runs popular T2F workshops at CEAC as well as being a Judge at the T2F Awards Show. “Using materials that have completed one life and re-creating them into something new is a passion of mine, always fun and definitely challenging.”
With her daughter Rachael, Eilis runs a small mask-making business selling beautiful hand-made masks through the World of Wearable Art Museum in Nelson, The Vault in Wellington and the Auckland Museum Shop.
Eilis works as the Art Technician at CEAC, as well as being a well-supported after school and school holiday programme tutor for children. She also works part time in the West Auckland Libraries, another place she loves.
At present Eilis is part of a small group of artists who are up-cycling and creating altered couture… so watch this space!
