James Moore has been teaching night classes, workshops and on degree and diploma courses for the last 13 years. He teaches painting, drawing and life drawing and brings experience, enthusiasm and a nurturing approach to these areas. James has an MFA Hons degree in painting and has been exhibiting his work in Auckland since 1989. The themes of James’ current practice revolve around elements of urban popular culture. The paintings are constructed from layers of superimposed imagery from television dramas, computer war game scenarios, street signs and supermarket aisles. These elements are traced onto transparencies and projected onto the painting surface. The choice of supports has developed along with the imagery from large sheets of primed paper, to stretched denim, to his current use of aluminium panels. James is also a keen musician/singer/songwriter. He is the founding member of the rock band the Lure of Shoes who released a debut album in 2007 and a soloist in the 30 strong Jubilation a capella gospel choir. |
