Robin Binsley is a painter who works primarily in oil paints, but enjoys a wide range of media. She is particularly inspired by the local Waitakere landscape, especially the sublime surroundings of the Karekare bush where she lives.
Robin studied from Elam and after many years teaching decided to go freelance and commit more time to being an artist. Robin is a very skilled teacher who strives to get her students to bring out their own personal abilities, while teaching them strategies and practical techniques to make it possible for them.
Public work by Robin includes the Watercare Millennium Mural, located beside Art Station on Ponsonby Road.
“For some time now my starting point has been my local visual environment; I begin each work with a dialogue in mind to structure the image and to sustain the painting process. Many transparent layers are needed to reduce the image to one’s fleeting perception of pattern, light and movement. My particular tilt at the prevailing world view is to remind the viewer of the feel of vision, the experience of light and colour, the universal in the particular.”
