Warwick BrownMonday 4th May, 7pm
Join us to hear Warwick Brown, renowned art critic and writer, contextualise artist Andrew Tolhurst’s work within the great tradition of geometric abstraction.
Andrew’s exhibition aims to reach people on several different levels. Awareness of the environment around us is paramount. The Neo Pop-cultural fallout is up there too. This style of artwork is a reaction, if not, a development of the injection moulded, plastic fabricated, on the go, throw it away society we have created for ourselves.
The artist, troubled by the rubbish accumulating on the streets of his home in Piha, has collected the discarded and well known packaging and has reproduced and manipulated the branding, making identification elusive but strangely familiar. |
