What is Arts Education for Schools?

CEAC has a contract with the Ministry of Education to provide a Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) Programme.

This programme will complement and enrich classroom learning, through providing memorable, specific, hands-on, interactive experiences, within an authentic arts environment.

The range of learning experiences we offer is particularly focused on the Arts, Social Sciences and Technology areas and is in response to the New Zealand Curriculum’s goals to encourage cross-curricular links and build key skills.

Specific details about the modules and workshops we provide are outlined in this website. Our programme aims to address achievement objectives for all levels of students (Years 1 – 13). We plan to facilitate effective partnerships with schools and classroom teachers which will lead to successful outcomes for all students.

Because LEOTC is Ministry funded, it allows us to offer this programme to schools at an affordable rate.

We offer a comprehensive choice of modules. There are 6 different modules to choose from. All of them will assist teachers in delivering the Curriculum by providing learning experiences in our unique arts environment.

THE 6 MODULES ARE:

1 - The Gallery Experience and Exhibition Workshop
Discover the current exhibition and participate in a hands on workshop with the artist.

2 - Heroes of History
Discover the rich history of the Corbans Family and their wine making business.

3 - Site Specific
At Corban Estate Arts Centre: Meet artists who created specific installations on site.
At Waitakere City Council: Guided tour of selected art installations at the new Civic building in Henderson.

4 - Reduce Reuse Recreate
CEAC offers practical recycled art workshop and also in partnership with Project Twin Stream [PTS], provide workshops for students that create awareness about the environment.

5 - Symbols of Identity
Engage with local artists to understand that intricacies of traditional and contemporary Maori and Pacifi Art.

6 - Open Studio
Visit and artist at CEAC to discuss their method of working and take part in a 'hands on' workshop.

All modules are available all year round but please note that the gallery exhibition changes every 5-6 weeks so the workshops change accordingly, to complement the gallery exhibition.

We aim to develop effective relationships with teachers in schools to enable learning experiences that are integrated into classroom learning. To this end, we will work with schools prior to a visit to ensure there is a shared understanding of the goals and outcomes of the visit.

Some of our workshops are offered in partnership with the Waitakere City Council, Project Twin Streams and ‘Trash to Fashion’.
